Make Trello Not Suck Again. Every board you’re on, in one place — and finally sortable. Your boards are still your boards. Mello just adds the parts Trello never had — or maybe it did once, and Cannon-Brookes had them taken out. Regardless: they’re here now.

Works with the trello.com you’re already signed in to. No API key, nothing to sign up for, no privacy policy to pretend to read — it borrows your session and otherwise minds its own business.

  • Every board at once. A table, a wall of cards, or a board of columns — across all your boards, same-named lists merged. Grouped by list, due date, label, whatever. Trello makes you visit them one at a time, like it’s 2011 and tabs are exotic.
  • Sort by literally anything. Due, created, updated, list, label, member, board. Click a header. Created dates? They’ve been sitting inside every card’s id the whole time; Trello just never showed you.
  • Rank things yourself. Drag rows into your own #1, #2, #3 across every board. The “what am I actually doing this week” list Trello structurally cannot draw, because it thinks in boards and you think in work.
  • See what happened. ⏱ Recent: the last 48 hours as a changelog, and the whole history of any card or board. Who added, moved, or archived what. Trello has kept this history forever. It just never told you.
  • Edit where you read. Rename, move, due dates, labels, members, checklists, comments — in a quick view that never leaves the page. Fifty cards at once, one Undo. No scavenger hunt.
  • Make things, not just tidy them. New boards, lists and labels from the same pickers you filter with. The archive one chip away, with an Unarchive on every row. Trello had most of this behind three menus. Here it’s behind none.
  • Find it, keep it. Filter as you type, search inside descriptions and comments, then take the whole lot with you. CSV, YAML, Markdown, or a zip with every attachment. Your data. Imagine.

Install

  1. Unzip it into a folder you’ll keep — Chrome loads it from there.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, switch on Developer mode.
  3. Load unpacked, and pick that folder.
  4. Be signed in at trello.com in the same browser, then click the Mello toolbar button.

Update

  1. Download again, unzip over the same folder.
  2. chrome://extensions → ↻ on Mello.
  3. Reload the dashboard tab. Your settings survive.

Or from a terminal

macOS or Linux. Puts it under ~/.local/share/mello; run it again to update.

Warning — ~/.local is hidden, so Chrome’s Load unpacked dialog won’t show it.
  • macOS ⌘⇧G, paste ~/.local/share/mello/extension — or ⌘⇧. to reveal
  • Linux CtrlL to type a path, CtrlH to reveal
  • Or skip it MELLO_DIR=~/Mello in front of the command

Windows

PowerShell. Puts it under %LOCALAPPDATA%Mello, where the Load unpacked dialog can see it.

MELLO_WHAT is cli, ext or all — a script piped into iex can’t take arguments, so it is asked that way. tz needs Node 18 or newer on the PATH.
